“4 your eyez only” the breakdown

whistling-her-name:

So I’ve had some time to really break apart this masterpiece. Overall the album isn’t from J Cole, it’s his friend. He starts off talking about wanting to die, he can’t live in the streets anymore.

He finds love in “She’s mine pt. 1” and progresses through the stages of love while still living in poverty, dealing drugs going in and out of jail and confronting institutional racism. “She’s mine pt. 2” is when he finds himself again. He has a daughter and rekindles the love he once had.

The title song “4 your eyez only” is clearly from his friends point of view but in the end verse Cole comes back to deliver the message that this song to the daughter of his friend who died. Hence why it’s only for her. Coles life is parallel to his friends life, loosing oneself, finding love, surviving, flourishing and finding love again only to have it go away.

What I’m trying to say is it is beautiful, and I loved Cole since I first heard the warmup years ago. But this album is something so powerful, words can’t even describe it. A pure modern day masterpiece
